Show Your Staff Some Love On Hairstylist Appreciation Day

April 25 marks the National Hairstylist Appreciation day. This is typically celebrated in the United States but is little known here in the UK. We think that should change!

Much more than just somebody to cut hair, our hair stylists can give advice on how best to look after hair, what kind of style best suits somebody’s face, or even just somebody to talk to for a little while. 

They often put in long hours and do so at times when other people are at home relaxing with their families such as the evenings and the weekends. We can sometime’s forget the training that they need to go through to be a top hairdresser and we perhaps don’t appreciate the long days spent on their feet.

What your salon can do for your hair stylists

This is a day to show them a little bit of extra love. This could be some kind of monetary bonus of course but it doesn’t have to be. 

1) Gift ideas

There are many ways in which you can show your appreciation. It could be as simple as buying their favourite drink from the local coffee shop, to bringing them a nice bouquet of flowers (which will also make your salon look great!), or even making up an elaborate gift basket.

If you have many hair stylists working in your salon then perhaps you can make a game of this too. Try buying a bunch of different gifts and inviting them all to do a lucky dip, or maybe give them all tickets and hold a raffle at the end of the day. Another nice idea would be to treat them all to a nice meal out.

2) Showcase them on social media

Why not put out a post on your social media salon showcasing each one of your stylists? You can talk about what kinds of work they do best and put photos of some of their best happy customers. You can also ask the fans of your pages to give a shoutout to their favourite stylist and that in turn creates some fantastic engagement for your post.

While you’re at it, I do hope you have a page on your salon website which has a good bio for all of your staff. This is a great way to make them feel appreciated at any time of the year.

When you hear your customers saying nice things about their hair after a treatment you can ask them for a testimonial and put together a collection of these quotes on the stylist bio section.

Bring faithful clients back to the salon

Any special day is a good excuse for a promotion, so why not offer some kind of deal for your clients. They could book in with their favourite stylist and enjoy a small discount.

Another option which would be a neat way to bring in some new clients is to give your existing clients a free gift card if they refer a friend to their stylist of choice.
