GBP Service Listings

This KB Entry has been superseded by the SEO for Salons Course

The services listing is very important for two reasons:

  1. It helps the GBP rank for the keywords pertaining to the listing
  2. It shows the customer exactly what the salon provides in a neatly organised way

As always, write for the customer first and search engines second. Google have an annoying habit of suggesting additional services which can make the list very long, messy and full of duplicates. This then makes it virtually unreadable for the customer.

Guidelines:

Have one entry for each distinct service that the client offers. Use the best keyword as the service title, but do not add any unnecessary keywords such as location names, ‘near me’, ‘best’ etc. Just the service name. Use the description field of the service to put additional keywords that are related to the primary service. You have 300 characters of text in this area. Examples:

Title: Hair Extensions
Description: Hand tied wefts, keratin bond extensions, tape-in extensions, hair toppers and correction services.

Title: Hair Colouring
Description: Color correction, color melts, color balancing, camouflage gray hair etc. From colors such as copper, auburn, blonde, to the most outrageous vivid color, we do it all.

Title: Men’s Haircuts
Description: Fades, shag cuts, mullets, fringes, hairline enhancement… from short to long, no matter what your style, guys can look great too at Monaco.

Avoid long lists of services that have no descriptions. Instead, if you want to use those keywords, integrate them into the descriptions of other services.

The end result that you want is a concise list of services that shows as a glance what the client offers, and where the description provides more detail about the service and incorporates all of those more specific keywords and variants that you want to rank for.

Services Library

Most hair salons will offer similar services, most beauty salons will offer similar services and so on. For every client that offers a particular service, such as hair extensions, they are going to want to rank for the exact same keywords. With this in mind, it would be a waste of time to write out service and descriptions from scratch for every client.

Instead, I propose we start to build out a library of key services that are offered by many clients. Extensive keyword research has already been done for tons of services by a former member of SG staff and we can use that to craft a good description. Currently this keyword research is somewhat unwieldy as it is in a very large spreadsheet, but I also intend to start putting together some more manageable keyword reference sheets.

Once a description for a main service has been created once, then we can just use that as a basis for each client that offers the service and change up the wording a little to be more specific to that client. We can also use AI tools to help us re-write it in a unique way whilst preserving keywords.
