Case Study:

Hiikuss Hair Salon in Camberwell
What The Client Wanted
Every salon owner wants more clients finding their business on Google, but that doesn't happen by chance. It takes a website that's built with search engine optimisation (SEO) at its heart, combined with ongoing marketing that helps your salon become more visible online.
When Hiikuss Afro Hair Salon in Camberwell approached Salon Guru, they already had a website that had been created by a family member. While it looked the part, it simply wasn't being found in Google searches, meaning potential new clients were choosing competitors instead.
Salon Guru rebuilt the website with one clear objective - to help Hiikuss become one of the most visible Afro hair salons in Camberwell, South London and beyond. From day one, our strategy focused on:
- Creating a modern, mobile-friendly website that converted visitors into clients
- Improving Google rankings for competitive afro & black hair search terms
- Building long-term organic search traffic
- Optimising the salon's Google Business Profile to increase local visibility
- Showcasing the salon's expertise in Afro, Caribbean and textured hair services
- Encouraging more online bookings through Zenoti.
The results were impressive. Within just four months, organic search had become Hiikuss' largest source of website traffic, the salon was ranking at the top of Google for dozens of valuable search terms, and hundreds of potential clients were clicking through to book appointments online.
In this case study, we'll take you through the campaign month by month, showing exactly what Salon Guru did and how the website performed.

During launch month:
- Organic search generated just 32 website visits
- Organic traffic accounted for only 3% of all website traffic
While these figures may seem modest, they created an excellent benchmark against which future growth could be measured.

- 32 visits in February to 759 visits in April

Hiikuss Hair Salon Case Study FAQs
How did Salon Guru improve Hiikuss' Google rankings so quickly?
«Rather than simply giving Hiikuss a new look, Salon Guru completely rebuilt the website with SEO at its core. We created dedicated pages for every key service, wrote keyword-rich content focused on Afro, Black and textured hair, improved the site's technical structure, and optimised it for local searches in Camberwell, South London and London. Within just one month of launch, the salon had achieved 39 Google No.1 rankings and 83 search phrases in Google's Top 3, laying the foundations for long-term organic growth.
Why wasn't the salon's old website performing well?
«Hiikuss previously had a website built by a family member, but it wasn't designed with search engine optimisation in mind. Although it looked presentable, it lacked the technical SEO, local optimisation, content strategy and website architecture needed for Google to understand what the salon specialised in. Salon Guru rebuilt the website from the ground up, ensuring every page helped Google recognise Hiikuss as an expert in Afro, Black and textured hair services.
What SEO work did Salon Guru carry out?
«Much of the work happens behind the scenes and continues after the website launched. Salon Guru improved technical SEO, page speed, internal linking, metadata, image optimisation and local SEO signals, while regularly adding fresh, search-focused blog content. This ongoing optimisation helped organic search traffic grow from just 32 visits at launch to 848 monthly visits within four months, making search engines the salon's biggest source of website visitors.
How did Google Business Profile help attract more clients?
«Website SEO and Google Business Profile optimisation work hand in hand. Salon Guru optimised Hiikuss' Google Business Profile so it appeared more prominently in local searches and Google Maps. By June, the profile was sending 449 visitors directly to the website, accounting for 23% of all website traffic. This meant more local people searching for Afro hair specialists were finding Hiikuss before its competitors.
Did better Google rankings actually lead to more bookings?
«Yes. Increasing website traffic is only valuable if visitors take action. As Google visibility improved, more people clicked through to Hiikuss' online booking system. By June, the website generated 578 clicks to Zenoti, with 483 unique booking clicks, showing that the SEO campaign wasn't just attracting visitors—it was encouraging potential clients to book appointments. Strong engagement figures, including a lower bounce rate and longer visit duration, reinforced that visitors were finding exactly what they needed.
Could Salon Guru achieve similar results for my salon?
«Every salon is different, but the strategy remains the same. Salon Guru specialises exclusively in websites and digital marketing for hair, beauty and aesthetics businesses. We combine stunning website design with technical SEO, local SEO, Google Business Profile optimisation, content marketing and AI-ready optimisation to help salons improve their Google visibility, attract more local clients and generate more online bookings. The Hiikuss case study is a great example of how a poorly performing website can be transformed into a powerful marketing tool that delivers measurable business growth.
