add a “Like Us” Tab with an image

Salon Facebook like us Tab

Please note. Facebook have once again changed the rules. Please follow the link below for instructions until I rewrite this page to reflect the new rules

Instructions here

First you need to create the image with the right words, colours and images – you can get free image software here -http://www.getpaint.net/download.html

Your image must be 520 pixels wide and any height you want.

You need to store that image on the Internet so Facebook can read it – so use a free image store like Photobucket or Flickr and upload your image.

Now we create the tab for you page by clicking “Edit page” whilst on your salon page and choosing “apps” in the menu on the left.

At the bottom of the page you should see “Static FBM” – click “Add app”.

Go back to you page and FBML1 should now be in the tab list down the left.Go back into “Edit page” and the app FBML should now be in the list of “added apps” – click “Got to application”

You now get a blank box where you can give your tab a Box title – how about “Welcome”.

Beneath that in the larger box we tell Facebook all about the image – like this -

<img src=’http://www.salonguru.net/voo-shack1.jpg‘>

The bit in blue is the url (address)- so you will get my image, so now edit it with your url from where you saved it. Please note SINGLE quotes not double either end of the address.

If you wanted to link your image to an external website, then you’d add the following to your image -

<a href=”http://yourwebsite.com” target=””_blank””><img src=”http://www.salonguru.net/voo-shack1.jpg” alt=”" /></a>

Notice how I have added some code at the start (the <a href=”)then a website address to go to, then the image code we already had, then end with some more code (the </a>)

I also added the element target=”_blank” since that makes your link to open in a new window.

Save your changes and go back to you page and you should have “Welcome” in the tabs on the left – try it and make sure it works.

The last step is setting the Welcome tab as the landing page for new visitors. Go back into “Edit page” and click “Manage Permissions” on the left.

1/2 way down you will see “Default Landing Tab” choose the new “Welcome” tab and save your changes.

Anyone coming to you page who is not yet a fan will see you new page. You cannot change the landing tab for existing fans.

As a final test use another Facebook account (friend or partner) and go to your page. If they are already a fan the click “unlike” and you will see your new tab :)
